Cyber Yodha launch “Cyber Safe Education Program” to create awareness regarding latest cyber crime online blackmailing , which is also known as Sextortion

What is Sextortion ?

Sextortion is a serious crime that occurs when someone threatens to distribute your private and sensitive material if you don’t provide them images of a sexual nature, sexual favors, or money.

Most of the time, these crimes happen when young people think they are talking to someone their age who is interested in a relationship or is giving them something of value.

The adults who perpetrate these crimes use threats, gifts, money, flattery, lies, or other methods to get a child or young person to give them explicit pictures.

Shivam Giri (Founder & CEO ) say after the criminal has one or more of these videos or phots, they then threaten to share or publish them. They may also threaten violence to get the victim to send more pictures.

The shame, fear, and confusion children feel when they are caught in this cycle often causes them to avoid asking for help or report the abuse.

Officials are asking caregivers and children caught in these situations to understand how the crime happens and openly discuss online safety

Method of Sextortion

Scoial Media

Social Media

Many sextortion scams start with seemingly harmless encounters over social media or dating sites. Eventually, the perpetrator will coerce the victim into sending explicit images, getting naked on camera, or performing sexual acts while on camera. The resulting images and videos can then be held to ransom.
Email Phishing

Email Phishing Schemes

An email arrives in your inbox stating that the sender has one of your passwords (which they will include in the email). They threaten to publish your intimate photos or videos unless you send money or explicit material, or perform sexual acts. Many of these scams are based on password harvesting, and unless you still have sensitive media on an old site
third party

Third Party App & Websites

If you’ve ever sent explicit images or videos via social media or a chat app, or have them stored on one of those platforms, someone could get their hands on them by hacking into your account. They could also use your account to share the images with friends, family members, and colleagues if you don’t comply with demands.

Dating Sites

Cybercriminals are now creating fake profiles that they use to gain confidence and personal information from potential victims before using that data against them in sextortion scams. These profiles usually take the shape of attractive young women looking for romance, which is one of the oldest internet fraud tricks in the book.
